Nikki & Eric`s autumnal Isle of Skye elopement was an absolute fairytale dream and one of the most intimate runaway weddings I photographed in 2023.
Nikki and Eric contacted me about their dream elopement in Scotland at the end of November 2022. Shortly after, we were chatting online about their imaginations and how I could help them to have their dream intimate elopement on the Isle of Skye. They travelled from Canada to the Misty Isle, aka Isle of Skye, to elope on the Quiraing.
On a moody day in September, I guided Nikki and Eric to a quiet corner on the rugged Trotternish Ridge to hold their intimate ceremony, followed by personal vows that touched them deeply. The location was absolutely magical and looked like it was straight out of a fairytale that day. After their intimate ceremony, we got soaked by the arriving storm on the Quiraing. Then, we visited a few other locations on the Isle of Skye, and I documented their love story - both on digital and 35mm & medium format film - until we got the last light of the day.

Tell us a bit about you.
“Eric and I met in high school and became a couple after finishing college. We have been together for 10 years and have moved around for our jobs for a few years before settling back to the area where we grew up. We love to travel and have always thought that eloping would give us the opportunity to travel while allowing us to share our love for one another in an intimate ceremony. We loved the idea of our wedding day being stress free and focused on what really matters, love!”
How did you find Weirdie Grizzly as your elopement photographer?
“We found Laszlo on Instagram and immediately loved his work. After reaching out to him we knew we had made the right choice because he was so easy to connect with and communicate with. But once we saw our sneak peak photos we were blown away by his work and couldn’t have been happier with our choice in photographer!”

How did you choose your elopement photo shooting locations?
“We have always wanted to travel to Scotland and not long after we were engaged we knew we wanted our ceremony to be on the Isle of Skye. Laszlo helped us narrow down locations but showing us pictures of previous elopements and explaining to us what each location would offer. We chose the Quiraing based on the breathtaking scenery, moody weather, and our desire to explore the area.”
What was the inspiration behind your Isle of Skye elopement photo session?
“We didn’t have specific inspiration for our photos. All we knew was we really wanted them to be unique and we wanted to feel our love every time we looked at them. Once we saw Laszlo’s instagram we knew that was exactly what we were looking for.”
What was your favourite moment from your elopement day?
“Our favourite moment from the day was the surreal feeling of finishing our vows and then seconds later getting caught in heavy rain. There is nothing like getting caught in the rain to make you feel alive!”
Do you have any advice for other couples?
“Our advice for other couples would be to follow your love story wherever it takes you. Those who love you will support you!”
